Formed in 2022, and refined throughout, Owen Sound ON-based improvisers Thresher don’t write music, they make it, organically from the ground up.

The sextet makes one great hivemind drawing influence from across the cosmos of Free music. The endless push and pull, the waging of wars, and orgy of sound weaved into one aural tapestry. 

Don’t mistake this text for something you read on the back of a shitty granola bar you picked up at the farmer’s market; this is the real deal! Their records are a dating profile, snapshots of the greatest looks, the prettiest angles, no smoke and mirrors or snake oil, just knowing how to work it.

Their live shows are where you finally hear the truth, a little rougher around the edges, someone you hope to change, something you hope to mold to your expectations. The initial lust is the same, but you’ll have to build it together. Regardless, you are worthy of their love!

After sharing a stage in late 2023, and guesting on his long running internet radio show TWFPS in early 2025, Thresher and Mike Watt teamed up in early 2025 to sling some long distance improv between Owen Sound and Pedro. Thresher's breed of noisy raucous improv here is met with Watt's formidable character-rich bass lines, that stick to the plot like dripping fingers of honey.

The quotient Beekeeper weaves a dimensional tale of the existential threat humanity poses to our own habitat. Sonically, the pieces make every attempt to break the fourth wall to interrupt the illusion of peace and prosperity; much as a beekeeper would interrupt a hive and leave with the fruits of labour.

Recorded and mixed while record wildfires burned beyond control in California and Ontario, and the sky burned red, an omnipresence of harmonious unease hangs over Side A.

The further descent into a state of alarm is palpable on the B side, with an air of misplaced hope or faith to tail end the journey as the extremes recede; waiting on the next wave. The trip should feel familiar.
