RE: ACT: A.Maiah and Pablo Mata CD
A.Maiah is the artist name of Asier Pérez Basterra from Basque Country. The guitarist has been involved in the Basque scene since the late 90s, not only as a musician but also as d.i.y. promoter and editor.
Asier has been part of the post-punk and noise-rock bands Exhale, Erizo, Nitxos and Viva Bazooka. He has also collaborated as a sideman to Broke Lord (musical project of the galizian writer Luis Boullosa) and Minimal Punk Spoken Word (spoken word act by the renowned Basque punkrocker Iñaki Urbizu “Pela”).
Most recently he´s taken part in the directed improvisation ensemble Eraeran and has also established collaborations with musicians from the Basque improvisation music scene. His last work is an original soundtrack for the documentary film “Durangas” by film maker Rakel Calvo.
In 2015 Asier started to develop a solo work that has transited so far between an industrialesque layering of noise and idiomatic compositions of twilight guitar instrumentals to strict free improvisation with prepared guitar and electro-acoustic music based on the sampling of field recordings. Through the years A.Maiah has played in Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, Italy and Great Britain.
Pablo Mata (Spain, 1987) is a drummer, producer and plastic artist established in Oviedo (Spain). His solo project Fig.8 explores the territories where jazz, ambient and instrumental hip hop share a common ground.
