Illinois based academic, author, free jazz drummer and percussionist Richard Gilman-Opalsky joins forces with improvising guitarist Adam Larison on Ancient Universalities.
Ancient Universalities is the union of the two extraordinary improvisors Adam Larison (guitar) and Richard Gilman-Opalsky (drums). Both from Illinois, their lives crossed paths at a rehearsal space at the University of Illinois at Springfield in 2022 and they’ve been creating joyous, free improvised music as a duo ever since.
Ancient Universalities is a dynamic, spontaneous and tasteful example of what occurs when two seasoned, in-sync improvisors are confident in their abilities to explore, push boundaries, and show moments of fragility and beauty.
